    Species Description - Sprawling annuals to 50 cm tall. Leaves with sheaths strongly compressed; blade 10-25 cm long. Inflorescences of 2-many digitate spikes in 1 or 2 whorls; racemes 5-12 cm long. Spikelets 4-6.5 mm long, 4-7-flowered; lower glume 2.2-2.5 mm long, the upper glume 3 mm long. Fl (probably year round); usually a common weed but rare in our flora, in clearings.
