    Species Description - Annual or perennial, stoloniferous herb; flowering culms 5-50 cm tall, decumbent, sparingly branched. Leaf sheaths glabrous or hairy; ligule 0.4-1.1 mm long; blades linear, lanceolate, or ovate, flat, 1-10 X 0.4-1.7 cm, scabrous, glabrous, or hairy on the upper surface. Inflorescence oblong; main axis 4-11 cm long; primary branches 5-15 mm long. Spikelets paired, lanceolate to elliptic, 2.1-3 x 0.8-1.2 mm; lower glume 1.4-2.1 mm long, 3-5-nerved, the awns 5-10 mm long; upper glume 1.6-2.1 mm long, 5-7-nerved; lemma of lower floret lanceolate to elliptic, 5- 7-nerved, mucronate, the palea vestigial; lemma of upper floret elliptic, cartilaginous, smooth, yellow, 2-2.4 mm long, mucronate.
