    Species Description - Rhizome short, stout, ascending; rhizome scales 5 mm long, 0.5-0.8 mm wide, bicolorous with black center and brown margin, varying to dark brown, hairlike scales 1 mm long; fronds to 65 cm tall, clumped; stipe 1/3-½ the frond length, atropurpureous, lustrous, glabrous, terete; blade bipinnate-pinnatifid to tripinnate, pinnately arranged, deltate; rachis terete to shallowly grooved, glabrous, the pinna rachises grooved, with brown wings; upper surface glabrous, papillate with dark vein ends; lower surface with sparse, short (less than 0.1 mm long), clavate white hairs; veins visible, free; sori short (ca. 0.5 mm long); indusium pale with white cells on outer surface, thin, broken into flaps 0.3-0.5 mm wide, 0.5-0.8 mm long; spores tan.

Cheilanthes seemannii Hooker, Sp. fil. 2: 85, t. 97A. 1852. Adiantopsis seemannii (Hooker) Maxon, Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash. 52: 113. 1939. Type. Northwest Mexico. Seemann 1931 (K!, frag. NY!). Adiantopsis chlorophylla is rare in Middle America, known from two collections in Guatemala (Stolze, 1981), and one collection each from Sinaloa and Jalisco.
