Description
Species Description - Shrubs ca. 1 m tall, the stems covered with minute (sublepidote) multi-armed stellate hairs. Leaf blades narrowly hastate-triangular, or subsagittate, mostly 2-3(-7) x 0.5-1.5(-3) cm, serrate, acute or subobtuse, palmately 3-5-nerved, strongly discolorous, minutely stellate-pubescent above, densely tomentulose beneath; petioles 0.5-1 cm long; stipules 3-5 mm long, subulate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils, the pedicels 1-4.5 cm long, slender; involucellar bracts 5-6, lance-ovate, 6-10 x 3-4 mm, minutely pubescent; calyx 7 mm long, densely yellowish pubescent; corolla 1-2 cm long, lavender with a dark red center and dark veins, externally pubescent. Fruits oblate, 8-9 mm diam.; mericarps 4.5 mm long, with minute septate hairs, dorsally carinate, with raised reticulations. Chromosome number, 2n = 56 (Krapovickas & Cristóbal, 1962; Fernández, 1974).

Pavonia aurigloba is readily recognized by the globular calyx (in bud) with its even, yellowish pubescence, unlike any of the other members of P. subsect. Hastifoliae. -
Distribution
From S Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul), Uruguay, and N Argentina (Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Entre Ríos, and San Luis), at elevations of 800-2000 m. The type locality is at 31°10'S, 64°47'W.
