Description
Species Description - Perenials herbs from rhizomes or corms, glabrous, to 100 cm tall; rhizomes to 6 cm long, to 4 cm wide; corms 1-4 cm long, 0.6-2 cm diam. Leaves submersed or emersed; submersed leaves sessile, pale green, linear, 10-50 cm long, 1-3 mm wide, the veins 1-3, the apex acute, the basal lobes absent, the basal sheath to 19 cm long; emersed leaves petiolate, the petioles more or less triangular, 13.5-68 cm long, 0.6-1.5 cm, the basal sheath to 23 cm, the blades pale green, linear-lanceolate, lance-ovate, rhombiform, to sub-cordate, 8.5-20 cm, 0.2-15 cm wide, the veins 9-13, the apex acute, the basal lobes absent, the base acute to rarely sub-cordate. Inflorescence a simple scape of 2-10 whorls, emersed, 3.5-37 cm long, 1-5 cm wide, the whorls with 2-3 flowers; peduncles terete, 12-79 cm long, 0.9-9.2 mm diam.; staminate bracts united at base, lanceolate, delicate to coarse, 6-22 mm, the apex round acute to obtuse; carpellate bracts united at base, lanceolate, coarse, 0.6-3.5 cm long, the apex obtuse; staminate pedicels spreading, cylindric, 2.2-4.9 cm long, 0.2-1.2 mm diam.; carpellate pedicels erect in flower, spreading in fruit, cylindric in flower, becoming expanded in fruit, 0.5-2.5 cm long, 2-5.5 mm diam. Staminate flowers with sterile carpels, the sepals erect, 9-11.5 mm long, 4-6 mm wide, the petals clawed, to 20.5 mm long, to 13 mm wide, the claws to 7 mm long, the stamens 9-12, the filaments glabrous, dilated, 2.3-3.8 mm long, ca. 0.4 mm diam., the anthers linear, 1-1.8 mm long, 0.3-0.5 mm wide, the apex round acute; carpellate flowers without ring of sterile stamens, the sepals appressed in flower and fruit, nearly enclosing the fruiting aggregate, 1.4-2.3 cm long, 0.9-2.5 cm wide, the petals white, yellowish, or pinkish clawed, 1.5-3 cm long, 1.3-2.5 mm wide, the claw ca. 5 mm long. Fruit aggregate 1.2-3 cm diam.; achenes oblanceolate, beaked, keeled, 3.2-7 mm long, 2-3 mm wide, the faces etuberculate, without glands, the beak lateral, horizontal, 0.7-1.2 mm long.
