Description
Species Description - Much like no. 6 [Cirsium altissimum (L.) Spreng.], and not always sharply distinct; lvs deeply pinnatifid, generally firmer and spinier; plants avg smaller (1–2 m), the peduncles tending to be a little leafier, and the heads often a little broader-based; 2n=20. Fields, open woods, river-bottoms, and waste places; s. Que. and Ont. to Minn. and adj. Man., s. to N.C., Miss., La., and Kans. July–Oct.
