  Species Description - Similar to no. 66 [Aster brachyactis S. F. Blake], but smaller, and with proportionately broader lvs and invol bracts; stem 3–25 cm; lvs narrowly oblong to spatulate, 5–10 times as long as wide, not ciliate; invol bracts subequal, or the outer longer than the inner, not ciliate or only obscurely so, fewer and thinner than in no. 66, avg broader and sometimes blunter; pistillate fls sometimes with a vestigial erect ray under 1 mm; 2n=14. Damp brackish sand or mud; P.E.I., Magdalen I. and ne. N.B. (A. frondosus, misapplied)
