    Species Description - Glabrous to somewhat scabro-hirtellous, 3–10 dm, often sweetly aromatic; lvs relatively thin and lax, linear or nearly filiform, 1–3(–4) mm wide, (15–)20–50 times as long as wide, 1-nerved or also with a pair of weak lateral nerves, very often with well developed axillary fascicles; many or most of the heads commonly pedunculate; invol 3–4.5(–5) mm, evidently resinous, mostly 10–21-fld; rays ca 2 mm, spreading; 2n=18. Open, sandy places, especially near the coast; N.S. to Fla. and La. Two well marked vars., often treated as spp.
