    Species Description - Annual 2–8 dm, branched and spreading, the stems ± hirtellous on the angles; lvs thin, narrowly elliptic to lance-oblong, 3–6(–10) cm, acute, gradually narrowed to an acute or obtuse base; stipules linear, 3–5 mm; sep 2, linear or lance-linear, 4–6 mm; cor salverform, with very slender tube, white or pink, 8–11 mm; stigmas 2; fr ellipsoid, obtusely 8-ribbed, 6–9 mm; 2n=28. Wet ground; s. N.J. to s. O., s. Ill., and Mo., s. to Fla. and Tex. June–Aug.
