Description
Species Description - Stem stout and erect, to 1 m, finely hairy; lvs sessile or subsessile, lance-oblong, 2–7 cm, 2–3 times as long as wide, with sharp subappressed teeth, broadly acute to rounded at base, thinly hairy on both sides; spikes usually several, 3–10 × 0.5–1 cm, sometimes interrupted at base; cal 1.5–2 mm, hairy throughout, the narrow lobes about as long as wide; 2n=24. Native of Eurasia, escaped from cult. into fields, roadsides, and waste places here and there in our range.
