    Species Description - Annual 0.5–2 dm, spreading-hairy and sparsely glandular in the infl, otherwise more strigose; lvs all petioled, deeply divided into 3–7 oblong or obovate, obtuse segments; cymes small and few-fld, eventually to 5 cm; cor blue, tubular-campanulate or almost funnelform, 4–5 mm, the tube exceeding the glabrous, entire lobes; stamens 1.5–2 mm at maturity; ovules 4; seeds 2–4, brown, 2–2.5 mm; 2n=12 (Ozarkian); 28 (Appalachian). Moist alluvial woods; ne. Va. and adj. Md.; c. N.C.; s. Ind. and s. Ill., to w. Tenn., se. Mo., and n. Ark. Apr., May. (P. covillei)
