Description
Species Description - Erect biennial often 1 m, usually simple to the infl; lvs numerous, pinnately parted into narrowly linear segments; infl elongate, simple or branched, forming a slender panicle 2–4 dm; cal-tube 3–5 mm, shorter than the linear lobes, cor scarlet outside, yellow inside, 2–4 cm, the lobes 7–10 mm; 2n=14. Native of s. U.S., occasionally escaped from cult. in our range. (Ipomopsis r.)

Discussion
Several western annual spp. of Gilia, with smaller fls, these not scarlet, are occasionally intr. but do not persist. Spp. of Navarretia, with unequal, commonly spinulose-tipped cal-lobes, the rather small fls in dense cymose heads, are also sometimes temporarily intr.
