Species Description - Much like no. 1 [Gentianopsis crinita (Froel.) Ma], and perhaps better subordinated to it; lvs typically lance-linear and less than 1 cm wide; cal 1.5–3 cm, its lobes strongly papillate-scabrous on the keels toward the base; cor-lobes more ascending than in no. 1; erose-dentate across the broad summit, often more deeply fringed along the sides; 2n=78. Bogs, meadows, and wet shores, especially in calcareous regions; chiefly from w. N.Y. and s. Ont. to s. Man. and Io., and in another var. to Alta. and on the Gaspé Peninsula. (G. procera; Gentiana procera.) The ssp. victorinii (Fernald) Lammers, a local ecotype in the intertidal zone along the St. Lawrence R., barely enters our range. It has small fls only 3–3.5 cm, with orbicular cor-lobes.
