    Species Description - Climbing to 5 m; lvs lanceolate, 4–7 × 1–2 cm, on petioles 3–8 mm; pedicels 3–5 mm, bearing 2 or more pairs of scale-like bracts; cor 2–3 cm; fr oblong or elliptic, 1.5–2 cm, short-beaked; 2n=16. Woods and thickets; se. Va. to Tenn. and Ark., s. to Fla. and Mex. Apr. All parts of the plant contain poisonous alkaloids.
