    Species Description - Stems high-climbing, tough and flexible; lvs petioled, ovate, oval, or oblong, 3–6 cm, acute to rounded, entire or undulate, glabrous, with several conspicuous parallel ascending veins; panicles 1–5 cm; sep and pet 2 mm; fr oval or oblong, slightly compressed, 6–8 mm. Swamps and wet woods, chiefly on the coastal plain; se. Va. to Fla. and Tex., n. in the interior to s. Ill. May.
