Species Description - Stems erect, branched, to 1 m or more, sparsely pustulate-hairy above; lvs odd-pinnate, the lfls very numerous, oblong, 1–2 cm; racemes often leafy; fls 1–6, yellow with red veins, 10–15 mm, subtended by ovate, sessile, serrate bracts; fr 2–7 cm, on a stipe 1.5–2 cm; joints 4–10, each 5–8 × 5–6 mm, sparsely pustulate-hairy; 2n=40. Sandy or muddy river-banks and fresh to brackish tidal shores; s. N.J. to S.C. Aug., Sept.
