    Species Description - Cylindric or pyramidal tree to 20 m; lvs ovate-oblong to obovate, 8–15 cm, short-acuminate, persistently long-hairy beneath, chiefly along the main veins, coarsely and often doubly serrate, the teeth salient or ascending, blunt or retuse, bearing the gland at the summit; pedicels 2–5 cm; sep glabrous; pet 9–15 mm, glabrous; fr globose, 1.5–2.5 cm; stone subglobose; 2n=16. Native of Eurasia, often escaped from cult. in our range, even appearing like a native.
