    Species Description - Perennial herb from slender, wiry rhizomes, 5–25 cm; lvs 2 or 3; lfls 3, the terminal short-petiolulate, broadly obovate, 1–3.5 cm, cuneate and entire below, deeply serrate and obtuse to often broadly rounded above, the lateral similar but asymmetrical, often with a broad lateral lobe; fls solitary; pedicels and cal glandless; sep narrowly triangular, caudate, to 1 cm; pet pink, (8–)10–16 mm; fr subglobose, 1 cm thick, only tardily deciduous from the receptacle; 2n=14. Cold bogs and wet meadows; Lab. to Alas., s. to e. Que., n. Minn., and Colo. June–Aug. Closely related to the chiefly Eurasian R. arcticus L., and possibly better treated as R. arcticus var. grandiflorus Ledeb.
