  • Description

    Description - Leaves coriaceous to subcoriaceous (to chartaceous), mostly slightly acuminate to acute, mostly broadest near the lower end; veins slightly prominent to plane beneath; stipules often longer than 10 mm and curved. Fruiting perianth 13-15 mm high.

  • Discussion

    The collections from Bolivia differ from most of the others in their short stipules (shorter than 10 mm). Pittier & Nakichenovich 15421, collected in the area of subsp araguensis, has short stipules and agrees only in this character with subsp araguensis.

  • Distribution

    (Fig 4). In the Andes from the Coastal Range of Venezuela to Bolivia; in forests at elevations between 800 and 2200 m.
