Genus Description - Fls perfect, perigynous; sep 5, spreading at anthesis, persistent, each usually with a dorsal appendage near the tip; pet none; stamens 5–many; ovary 3–5-locular, with 3–5 styles and many ovules; capsule circumscissile; seeds arillate; succulent, fibrous-rooted herbs with opposite, exstipulate lvs, the small fls solitary or few in the axils, sessile or nearly so. 8, warm reg.
