    Species Description - Small, rhizomatous shrub 1–6 dm; stems simple or branched, minutely cinereous-tomentulose; lvs broadly flabelliform-obovate, 0.5–1 cm, glabrous, shining, firm, coarsely reticulate, incised around the rounded to subtruncate summit, imbricate-ascending along the branches; fruiting catkins 0.5–1 cm, sessile on very short spur-branches; bracts oblong or oblong-ovate, entire or nearly so, narrower than the wingless, ovate to subrotund frs, tightly appressed, often with spreading tip. Bogs and open barren-lands; Lab. and Nf., and local in N.S. (B. terrae-novae)
