    Species Description - Plant 1–1.5 m; lvs and infl as in no. 1 [Cimicifuga racemosa (L.) Nutt.]: staminodes broadly oval, petaloid, saccate and nectariferous at the base within; ovaries mostly 3 or 5(8) tipped with a short, subulate style, short-stipitate, the stipe elongating to 5–8 mm; follicles fragile, 10–15 mm with subterminal, erect or ascending style; seeds densely covered with chaffy scales.
