    Species Description - Lvs both submersed and floating, the latter mostly 5–10 cm, the sinus usually more than half as long as the midvein; petioles flattened on the upper side; fls 1.5–2 cm thick; sep usually 5, yellow within; anthers 1.5–3 mm, shorter than the filaments; stigmatic disk red, 3–6 mm wide at anthesis, scarcely enlarged in fr, 6–10-rayed; fr 15 mm, with constricted neck; 2n=34. Ponds; Nf. to N.J. and Pa., w. to n. Mich., n. Wis., and ne. Minn. Summer. (N. lutea subsp. pumila) A hybrid with N. variegata has been called N. ×rubrodisca Morong.
