  Genus Description - Coarse ferns with a stout erect crown bearing a dense spiral of large, deciduous sterile lvs and later in the season some smaller fertile ones; sterile lvs pinnate with pinnatifid pinnae, the lowermost pinnae diminutive, the venation free; fertile lvs firm, persistent throughout the winter, with spreading-ascending, linear to moniliform pinnae; indusium hyaline, hood-like, extrorse. 3, the other 2 Asian.
