Description
Species Description - Rhizome ca 1 mm thick, the numerous lanceolate scales 3–4 mm; lvs numerous, spreading, 5–20 cm, the petiole 2–10 cm, dark brown toward the base, green distally; blade deltoid-ovate to deltoid-lanceolate, to 7(–10) cm wide, firm, pinnate-pinnatifid to bipinnate-pinnatifid, the rachis green; pinnae 5–12 pairs, alternate, shortly (to 2 mm) petiolulate or sessile, deltoid, with to 5 pairs of segments, these oblong to spatulate, coarsely toothed or incised; 2n=72. Cliff-crevices in noncalcareous rocks; Mass., s. Vt., and s. N.Y. to O. and Ky., s. to Ga. and Ala.
