    Species Description - Lvs scattered on the delicate, long-creeping rhizome; petiole to 7 cm, margined nearly to the base with a green herbaceous wing, sparingly septate-pilose; blade light green, ovate to lanceolate, to 19 × 4 cm, bi- or tripinnatifid, the rachis broadly winged, sparingly pilose, the pinnae 6–10 pairs, rhombic, the pinnules 2–4 pairs, obcuneate, the ultimate segments 1- veined; sori green, terminal on lateral veins at the base of the lf-lobes, 1–4 to a pinnule, 2 mm; 2n=72, 144. Rockhouses and moist, overhanging cliffs, usually on sandstone; Ky. and s. O. to s. Ill., s. to w. S.C., Ga., Ala., and Ark., the filamentous gametophytes of this or other spp. n. to Vt. and N.H.
