Description
Species Description - Rhizome black, wiry; lvs to 3 m, the slender rachis flexuous; lfls long-stalked (1–2 cm), 2–4 × 3–6 cm, deeply cordate, palmately lobed, the lobes mostly 6, to 2.5 × 1.2 cm, rounded above, entire; fertile pinnae several times dichotomously branched, the numerous ultimate segments 3–5 × 1.5 mm; sporangia 6–10 per segment; 2n=60. Moist thickets and woods in acid soil; irregularly from s. N.H. and e. N.Y. to O. and sw. Mich., s. to Fla. and Miss.
