    Species Description - Stem 1–3 dm; lvs very broadly ovate to reniform, 1.5–4 cm, often wider than long, usually acute, mostly shorter than the peduncle; axis glandular, pedicels and ovary glabrous; bracts 2–3 mm; fls up to ca 15; sep and lateral pet lance-oblong, 3–4 mm, spreading or reflexed; lip whitish, broadly cuneate-obovate, 7–8 mm, nearly as wide, deeply retuse with a minute tooth in the sinus, bearing a conspicuous pair of spreading lateral teeth near the base; column 1.5–3 mm. Wooded slopes in the mts.; N.J. and s. Pa. to e. Ky. and S.C. July, Aug. (Ophrys s.)
