The type was from northwestern Yunnan: "NW-Y.: Pteridium-Wiese der wtp. St. des birm. Mons. bei Nitscheluang und Schutsche am Taron (Djiou-diang, e Irrawadi-Oberlaufe), 270 54, Granit, 2000 m, 7. VII. 1916 (9427)." It has not been seen.

Discussion
According to Handel-Mazzetti, this is a tall, robust plant very closely related to Mazus caducifer Hance. From the description, it can be distinguished from the latter notably in the opposite leaves with the basal part of the blade pinnatifid.
