Ramuli primum rotundato-quadrangulati demum teretes sicut folia subtus in-florescentia hypanthiaque pube appressa resinoso-granulosa plusminusve caduca densi-uscule induti; petioli 1.5-2 cm longi; lamina 6.5-9 × 3-4 cm elliptica vel ovato-elliptica apice anguste hebeti-acuto basi late acuta vel obtusa, integra et rigidiuscula, supra glabra, subtus in venarum primariarum axillis modice setulosa setulis laevibus usque ad 1 mm longis, breviter (0.3-0.4 cm) 5-plinervata pare exteriore tenui incluso nervis secundariis ca 2 mm inter se distantibus subplanis tertiariis non vel vix evolutis; panicula 6-9 cm longa multiflora; flores 5-meri, pedicellis 2-5 mm longis, bracteolis linearibus 1-1.5 mm longis ad anthesim caducis; hypanthium (ad torum) 2.5 mm longum; calycis tubus 0.5-0.6 mm longus, lobis interioribus 0.7-0.8 mm longis ovato-rotundatis, dentibus exterioribus hebeti-subulatis 0.5-0.6 mm eminentibus; petala 5.3-5.5 × 2.2-2.5 mm elliptico-lanceata acuta minute granulosa; stamina iso-morphica glabra; filamenta 2.8-3 mm longa; antherarum thecae 4 × 0.5 × 0.6 mm subulatae curvatae poro 0.2 mm diam ventraliter inclinato, connectivo 0.8 mm prolongato, dente dorsali 0.2-0.25 mm longo hebeti-acuto; stigma truncatum non expansum; stylus 8-8.5 × 0.2 mm glaber in ovarii apicem 0.6-0.7 mm immersus; ovarium 3-loculare apicem versus dense granuloso-furfuraceum.

Discussion:Both the suggested relatives have leaves generally broader and rounded to cordu-late at the base, as well as nearly obsolete (completely adnate, not projecting) external calyx teeth; G. intermedia has smaller flowers (pedicels 1 mm long, hypanthium plus calyx tube 2.2 mm long, anthers 2-2.5 mm long), while G. weddellii has petals 7.5-14 mm long and acuminate dorsal anther spurs 1-2 mm long. Graffenrieda hitchcockii Gleason var parvifolia Wurdack has similar lower leaf surface pubescence and external calyx teeth, but much more rigid leaves esetulose in the axils and apically rounded petals.
