Description:Latin Diagnosis - Herba caulescens; foliis densissime rosulatis utrinque atroviridibus subcoriaceis adscendentibus nitidis usque ad 7 cm longis et 1.3 cm latis acutis multistriatis marginibus ciliatis, caeterum glabris; pedunculis paucis ca 3 7 cm longis densiuscule irregulariterque puberulis tricostatis; capitulis subglobosis ca 8 mm latis griseo-albidis; bracteis involucrantibus late ellipticis vel subrotundis subnigris acuminatis breviter pubescentibus.

Species Description - Caulescent herb; stems apparently to 8 cm long, very densely rosulate-foliose at the apex; leaves very numerous, densely packed together, definitely widest at the base and gradually narrowed to the acute apex, the lowest smallest, increasing in size toward the stem apex, the largest to 7 cm long and 1.3 cm wide, ascending, many-striate, ciliate along the margins, otherwise glabrous, shiny; peduncles few, 5 or 6 per plant, about 37 cm long, 3-costate, rather densely and irregularly puberulous, slightly twisted; heads subglobose, grayish-white, about 8 mm wide, many-flowered; involucral bractlets in several series, broadly elliptic or subrotund, blackish, definitely acuminate at the apex, about 2.6 mm long and 2 mm wide, short-pubescent on the back, pilose near the apex but not on the acumination; receptacular bractlets about 3.4 mm long, 1.3-1.4 mm wide, oblanceolate, more or less antrorsely pilose above the middle; staminate florets: sepals 3, oblanceolate, 2.5-3.1 mm long, 0.5-0.8 mm wide; petal-tube cyathiform, about 1.1 mm long, truncate at the apex; stamens 3, slightly exserted, the anthers with 2 thecae; pistillodium small, 3-parted, extending about half way up the petal-tube; pistillate florets: sepals 3, oblanceolate or elliptic, 3-3.1 mm long, 0.9-1.5 mm wide, acute at the apex, antrorsely long-pilose from above the middle to the apex; petals 3, elliptic, about 2.4 mm long and 0.7 mm wide, obtuse at the apex, antrorsely long-pilose except at the base; pistil apparently immature, about 2.5 mm long; stigmas 3; style appendages 3.
