  • Discussion

Emmeorrhiza umbellata f tomentosa Schumann, Mart. Fl. Bras. 6(6): 408. 1888, nomen.

Schumann gave no formal description but merely a name to the collection of Schwacke, which I have designated as type, being the collection indicated by Schumann as deposited in Berlin Herbarium. These rarely collected pubescent specimens from southern Brazil have both surfaces of the leaves pubescent, the stems are densely cano-pubscent, and the pedicels are densely spreading-hirsutulous or papillate-pubescent. The pubescent capsules are 2-2.2 mm long, and the calyx lobes vary from 0.5-1 mm long, and are narrowly lanceolate.

This pubescent variety is not to be confused with the commonly occurring pubescent variation of northern Venezuela, described below under a different subspecies of E. umbellata.
