Discussion
Standley in the Rubiaceae of Venezuela cited Moritz s n from Merida and Funck & Schlim 1500 from San Jacinto, Edo. Merida, as pertaining to P. lyristipula. These two collections actually are to be identified with two other taxa in Palicourea, the Moritz collection referable to P. acetosoides Wernh. and the Funck & Schlim collection belonging to a taxon described below. Following Wernham, Standley described the rachis as glabrate, but an isotype collection shows definitely dense pubescence. Although the corolla was described by Wernham as glabrous on the exterior, an examination of the iso type collection reveals it to be sparsely pilosulous.
