  • Family

    Rubiaceae

  • Scientific Name

    Palicourea aschersonianoides (Wernham) Steyerm.

  • Type

    Type. Colombia, Triana 195.

  • Discussion

Psychotria aschersonianoides Wernh., Jour. Bot. 55: 253. 1917.

The collection of Cuatrecasas, Llano & Gutierrez 24225 from Dept. Antioquia, Colombia, is referred tentatively to this species, but Pennell 7463 from Dept. Cuaca and Pennell 4363 from Dept. Bolívar, Colombia, both cited by Standley (Field Mus. Publ. Bot. 7: 86. 1930), are doubtfully excluded in the present treatment.

This species has the base of the corolla tube curved, asymmetric, and subgibbose, with an interior ring of hairs near the base, and is, accordingly, placed in Palicourea. It is closely related to the next, P. tamaensis (Standl. & Steyerm.) Steyerm. In the latter taxon the corolla tube is not curved or asymmetric as in P. aschersonianoides.
