Monographs Details: Psychotria ctenophora Steyerm.
Authority: Maguire, Bassett. 1972. The botany of the Guayana Highland--part IX. Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 23: 1-832.
Discussion:When transferred to Psychotria, Cephaelis silvatica requires a new name, as there exists a previously published Psychotria sylvatica Blume (Bijdr. 963. 1826) which is a species from Java not conspecific with Cephaelis silvatica Brem. This taxon is most closely related to P. bracteocardia (A. DC.) M.-Arg. and P. glabrescens M.-Arg., from both of which it differs in the fewer pairs of lateral nerves of the leaf blades (8-13) which are farther apart, and smaller flowering heads with two instead of four spreading involucral tips. In floral details it differs from P. bracteocardia in having ciliate calyx lobes, densely pubescent hypanthium, and calyx, and the corolla pubescent over a larger external surface. As noted previously, intermediate specimens sometimes are found between this taxon and P. bracteocardia in which the calyces, hypanthia, or calyx lobes are less pubescent.
