Pagamea spadicea Pittier, Bol. Soc. Venez. Ci. Nat. 9: 123. 1944.

In appearance, this taxon is similar to Psychotria kappleri (Miq.) M.-Arg., but is easily distinguished from that species by the pubescence present on the corolla lobes, leaves, and outer bracts. About 16-17 flowers are found within a head consisting of seven interior bracts and four outer bracts, the two outer pairs being decussate. At the base of each flower from each side arise 1-2 glandular, fleshy, aculeate processes.
