The 6-9 flowers are densely crowded together without subtending bracts and bracteoles, the whole mass surrounded by four united bracts 4-5 cm long and united into a tube for 2.2 cm. At the base of the tube within on top of the peduncle are numerous, orange-brown, setose, erect hairs 3 mm long. The interior of the corolla tube has a barbate zone of hairs toward the base (9 mm above the base), above which continues to the orifice a long-pilose surface.
