Cephaelis bolivarensis Standi. & Steyerm., Fieldiana Bot. 28: 567. 1953.

In this taxon no bracts or bracteoles are present between or subtending the eight sessile flowers. The involucre consists of two outermost entire, foliose bracts free to their base. These subtend the head of flowers. Within the outermost two bracts are a few shorter bracts. This species and the next three following are somewhat intermediate and transitional between the group of species treated above and Sect. 10. series M. Cephaelideae of section Cephaelis of Psychotria of Müller-Argoviensis, which included such species as Psychotria bracteocardia, as well as series A. Tapogomeales of sect 11 of Tapogomea represented by P. poeppigiana.
