Monographs Details: Psychotria lupulina subsp. rhodoleuca var. maypurensis (Bonpl. ex Humb., C.Roemer & Schult.) Steyerm.
Authority: Maguire, Bassett. 1972. The botany of the Guayana Highland--part IX. Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 23: 1-832.
Discussion:This taxon is merely a variation of P. lupulina subsp rhodoleuca with the leaves sessile or nearly so and with a rounded or obtuse base. Both the typical variety of rhodoleuca with leaves attenuate and acute at base with a petiole of 2-3 mm, as exemplified by Steyermark 86862 grows alongside var maypurensis (Steyermark 86861) with sessile leaves rounded to obtuse at the base. The involucral bracts of var maypurensis are of the narrow linear or linear-oblanceolate type found in subsp rhodoleuca.
