Psychotria chondroloma Standi., Field Mus. Publ. Bot. 7: 440. 1931.

This taxon varies in leaf width from 2-6.5 cm and in length from 7.5-18 cm, and in shape from lanceolate to oblong. In Tate 700 the leaves are obtuse to subrounded at the base, acute to subacute to obtuse in Tate 726 (type collection of P. chondroloma), and subacute in Schomburgk 2085 (type of P. schomburgkii). The collections of Steyermark 58286 and of Phelps & Hitchcock 17 represent the narrow-leaved extremes of the taxon. In the type collection of P. chondroloma (Tate 726) the tertiary veinlets are less prominent beneath and the lateral nerves less prominently connected by tertiary transverse veinlets than the type collection of P. schomburgkii (Schomburgk 2085). In both collections the marginal nerve is prominent and thickened, nearly as wide as the midrib.
