Authority: Maguire, Bassett. 1972. The botany of the Guayana Highland--part IX. Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 23: 1-832.
Description:Latin Diagnosis - A subsp anomothyrsa corolla extus puberulenti recedit; calyce hypanthioque extus dense papillato-puberulenti; pedunculo 10.5-11 cm longo 1.5-2 mm lato dense puberulenti; foliorum laminis late obovatis 25-26 × 10-13 cm, nervis lateralibus utroque latere 11-12 adscendenti-curvatis 15-25 mm remotis vix anastomosantibus vel prope marginem tenuiter desinentibus.

This form differs from typical P. macrophylla subsp anomothyrsa f anomothyrsa in the pubescent outer surface of the corolla, papillate-puberulent calyx and hypanthium, stouter and more elongated peduncle with stouter branches of the inflorescence, and broader obovate leaves with different leaf nervation.

In addition to the probable hybridization indicated between P. macrophylla subsp macrophylla and subsp anomothyrsa, there also is apparent introgression taking place between P. macrophylla subsp albacostata and P. uliginosa at different portions within their geographical ranges. Such intermediates possess the silvery lower leaf surface and relatively fewer-nerved leaves of P. uliginosa, but have the shorter, broader inflorescences with the lowest axes branched and pubescent calyx, hypanthium, and inflorescence branches of P. macrophylla subsp albacostata. The following specimens from Venezuela manifest the combination of characters that would appear to indicate introgression between P. uliginosa and P. macrophylla subsp albacostata: Estado Falcon (Steyermark 99186)] Distrito Federal (Lasser 81] Pittier 9237)] Estado Aragua (Badillo 1313, 4362, 4282] Pittier 9351, 14086] Pittier & Nakichenovich 15542] Alson 5314] Lasser 2043, 2218] Killip & Lasser 37748, 37750] Tamayo 3368] Montaldo 3560). Estado Yaracuy (Trujillo & Bunting 7593). Estado Miranda {Steyermark 86292, 91582] Gines 4305). Estado Carabobo (Pittier 8026] Steyermark 94318, 95321] Uno. Dositeo 19). All the foregoing Venezuelan localities are in the coastal cordillera where both P. macrophylla subsp albacostata and P. uliginosa occur.
