This species has an aspect suggesting Palicourea, because of its curved, unequal basal portion of the corolla tube and somewhat unequal corolla lobes. In habit of foliage it resembles somewhat P. duricoria Standi. & Steyerm. This peculiar species does not appear to have at present any known relatives among those species studied. Its tendency towards a zygomorphic corolla of a Palicourea-like type is indicated, but the interior pubescence of the corolla tube confined to the middle portion and above places it within Psychotria.
I take great pleasure in dedicating this species to Mr. Rupert Barneby, brilliant taxonomist of the New York Botanical Garden, who on numerous occasions has rendered invaluable suggestions and counsel during the author’s work in the Rubiaceae.
