Discussion
Psychotria berteriana DC., Prodr. 4: 515. 1830.
Psychotria platyphylla DC., Prodr. 4: 517. 1830.
Nonatelia pubescens Spreng., Syst. 1: 751. 1825, not Psychotria pubescens Sw. 1788.
Material from the West Indies has somewhat longer corollas than South American specimens, and the inflorescence is denser in the ultimate branches which are relatively less elongated, therefore the flowers and fruits appear more aggregated than in the South American plants. Also, the number of lateral axes to an inflorescence is relatively smaller in the West Indian specimens, and the unbranched portion of the lowest axes as well as the total length of the axes is shorter.
