Monographs Details: Psychotria sanmartensis var. costanensis Steyerm.
Authority: Maguire, Bassett. 1972. The botany of the Guayana Highland--part IX. Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 23: 1-832.
Description:Latin Diagnosis - A var sanmartensis inflorescentiis brevioribus angustioribusque 3-5 cm longis 3-5 cm latis recedit; inflorescentiae axium ramorumque lateribus oppositis saepe magis pubescentibus; hypanthio interdum puberulo.

Discussion:The fruits are white, globose, and glabrous with the pyrenes flat or slightly concave on the commisural face. The fruits of the two varieties are the same. Psychotria indulgens Rusby cannot be differentiated from P. santamartensis, and merely shows a somewhat more robust inflorescence 8 cm long (high) by 12 cm broad, peduncles 4.8 cm long, leaf blades 9-19 × 2.5-8.5, and petioles 0.8-1.5 cm long.
