  • Discussion

Type. Ad ostium flum. Madeira, Prov Rio Negro, Amazonas, Brazil, Martius.

This taxon resembles P. loretensis Standi, but the exterior of the corolla is densely tomentellose, the lateral axes of the inflorescence are twice dichotomously branched, and the lateral nerves of the leaf blades do not end directly in the marginal nerves but anastomose about 1-3 mm from the margin. From P. cincta Standi, it differs in the flowers scattered along the ultimate forks of the inflorescence, the more numerously-flowered axes, and the lateral nerves anastomosing before reaching the margin. From P. deflexa subsp campyloneura it is differentiated by the twice dichotomously branched lower axes of the inflorescence and by the pubescent exterior of the corolla.
