Discussion:

Rudgea Obscura Sandw., Kew Bull. 1931: 474. 1931.

Chytropsia astrellantha (Wernh.) Brem., Rec. Trav. Bot. Neerl. 31: 292. 1934.

Type. Potaro River, below the Kaieteur, British Guiana, Jenman 959.

The stipular teeth are mainly soft and herbaceous in this taxon and vary from 1-1.5 mm long. On the inside of the stipular sheath are whitish fimbrillate erect hairs which protrude beyond the sheath. Sandwith described the corolla as having 4 lobes, but on the holotype specimen at K which I have studied there are 5 lobes present on the flowers examined. The flat smooth ventral face of the pyrenes of this taxon indicate its position in Psychotria as allied to the Chytropsia and Mapouria groups.
