Mapouria remota ß ovata M.-Arg., Mart. Fl. Bras. 6(5): 407. 1881.

Mapouria remota y longifolia M.-Arg., Mart. Fl. Bras. 6(5): 407. 1881.

Mapouria remota [Greek] angustifolia M.-Arg., Mart. Fl. Bras. 6(5): 407. 1881.

Type. On the Rio Negro, Amazonas, Brazil, Robert Schomburgk 963.

Bentham described the peduncles of the inflorescence as “terminalibus demum lateralibus.” On the holotype collection at K the peduncle is lateral, and on the isotype at NY it is both terminal and axillary. After an examination of material of Psychotria alboviridula Krause, I can find no characters to distinguish it from P. remota, both having the same type of entire, acute to cuspidate stipules with fimbrillate hairs at the caducous base within, the same type of interrupted, paniculate, glabrous, elongate inflorescence, both terminal and axillary, the same type of leaves, which are variable in size, and the same type of broadly triangular calyx lobes which are acute and ciliolate.
