Description:Latin Diagnosis - A var nitida corolla majore ad 14.5 mm longa anguste cylindrico-infundibuliformi recedit; inflorescentiis 12—21 -floris, parte florifera 3-6 cm longa, pedunculo 3-6.5 cm longo, axibus lateralibus infimis 2-3 cm longis 7-8-floris; calycis lobis suborbicularibus glabris 0.4-0.7 mm; foliis petiolatis, petiolis 9-11 mm longis, laminis elliptico-oblongis vel ovato-oblongis 9-12 × 3.5-5 cm apice acuminatis basi obtusis vel sub-rotundatis.

Discussion:

Type. Exposed rocky slopes of quebrada on southwestern-facing portion of Chimantá-tepui (Torono-tepui), Chimantá Massif, Estado Bolívar, Venezuela, alt 1410 m, 15 May 1953; vining subherbaceous, 4-5 ft tall; leaves chartaceous-sub-coriaceous, deep green above, pale green below; calyx deep green; corolla pale green, the tube 5-angled, 13 mm long, lobes greenish-white, squarrose; fruiting peduncles magenta-purple; fruiting calyx dark purple, Julian A. Steyermark 75406 (holotype VEN, isotypes NY, F).

This variation has longer corollas than any of the other varieties of C. nitida, and more elongated inflorescences and peduncles, as well as more elongated lowest branches of the inflorescence.
