Discussion
Guettarda grandiflora Steud., Flora 26: 45. 1843.
Guettarda nitida Krause, Verh. Bot. Ver. Brandenb. 50: 107. 1908.
Type. Ad ripas Huallaga in provincia Maynas, Peru, Poeppig.
I can find no essential differences between G. aromatica and G. grandiflora or G. nitida. Standley (Field Mus. Publ. Bot. 13: 116. 1936) gives 1845 as the date of publication for volume 3, page 27, plate 232 under Guettarda aromatica, but Stafleu (Taxonomic Literature p. 362. 1967) shows that this portion of Poeppig & Endlicher’s work appeared on 15-21 Aug 1841, which would antedate by two years the publication of G. grandiflora Steud.
