Discussion
Type. Prope Panuré ad Río Uaupés, Amazonas, Brazil, Oct 1852-Jan 1853, R. Spruce 2565.
Schumann placed F. lanceolata in his key [Mart. FI. Bras. 6(6): 206. 1889] under “a. Rhachis et pedunculi glaberrimi,” yet in his description (p 209) of the species stated that the “Inflorescentiae rhachis . . . sub lente valida tomentella.” An examination of the isotype specimen at NY shows the peduncle and rachis of the inflorescence to be indeed minutely but densely tomentellose. Schumann states the hypanthium to be “glabro vel subglabro” but it is minutely densely puberulent on the isotype specimen examined.
From the similar-appearing F. paraensis this taxon differs in the tetramerous flowers with shining leaves obviously reticulate venulose.
